Old Republic Beta Signups have begun

Dust off your system spec sheet, it's time. Beta signups have begun for The Old Republic. Pulling the trigger a day early on an RSS feed post, SWTOR.com hinted that the beta signups were coming soon, but no one expected them to happen the very next day.
The signup official announcement came and within a matter of minutes, the entire Old Republic site went down. Keep your eye on this URL for the first available opportunity to get in on this action. As per most beta signups, its probably going to help if you have been a long term member of the community and have beta tested games previously:

6 year vet of swg galaxies, have played it since the begining and was one of the first beta users. I would really enjoy helping test your new game, and be a player when the gam eis released.

I have been a long time MMO Gamer. I have played in a couple betas and like testing features in a way that I think players would actually use them in practice. I have been long waiting a Star Wars MMO and that could capture my interest like this has. I even purchased Knights of the Old Republic so I could get an idea of the fiction and game play.
So far I like what I see and can’t wait to get my hands on it. I have played World of Warcraft for some time and have tried other games that didn’t quite hold my interest. I have lead large guilds and lead raids. I also like running in pugs where many people don’t like it. The reason I bring this up is that I have experiance using in-game tools for managing Guilds, Leading Raids, and organizing PUGs.

There were rumors of a 2009 release date for SWTOR. I don’t think that is realistic but I would be inclined to expect an Old Republic beta towards the end of this year.
