TOR Companion Characters

Star Wars The Old Republic will feature many game mechanics drawn from their old games. The new MMO will feature Companion Characters drawing on game play from Knights of the Old Republic, but what can we assume about what has been revealed regarding this major game feature.

Confirmed: There will be many companion characters available to each player. Companion characters in KOTOR are themselves pieces of the main and sub story arcs. With The Old Republic focusing greatly on story, the companion becomes a strong tool for introducing new story lines and quests. Entire quest lines can be introduced by each individual companion character that the player finds .As your relationship towards a companion character develops you may unlock new content, new quests and new stories from that companion.

Companions are not pet's instead they can be seen more like members of your gang, each with its own strength and weakness in different situations. They will likely level and gain equipment much like the player's main character and it's very possible that each player may be able to play AS their companion, switching between characters with the flick of a button.
